As I write this far below the flight deck, I can only wonder if it will ever be
printed. After experiencing some of the things Ive seen, it seems that there are a
great many guys and gals in the Services who would appreciate reading about anothers
military peregrinations, which no doubt, will be like and similar -- and perhaps a wee bit
nostalgic later on. So, to the men and women of all branches of the Armed Forces of this
great and unbeatable United States, let me say, Read em and weep! At least read it!!
This is probably along the lines you would express yourselves, if you thought you might
possess gall enough to write openly and publicly, such a vapid interpretation of your own
military imbroglios and peccadilloes. Any resemblance to people living or dead, is
indubitably true, also for places and situations. Names have been changed to "protect
the innocent" Heh, heh.
INTRODUCTION
December 7, 1941
Perhaps no other day in modern
American history has ever been so boldly emblazoned across the Continent and embedded so
indelibly in our minds, as that day of treachery, Sunday, December 7th. It not only
stirred a complacent, easy-going Republic out of a false slumber and a fatuous sense of
security, it also created the motive and driving power for the mightiest war machine the
world has ever seen. It revealed the most unparalleled example of bestial political
conquest based on butchery and ruthless brutality ever witnessed by men, since the
beginning of time, including Genghis Khan.
Whether you were drafted or enlisted, an officer or just another GI Joe or Jane, you know
in the bottom of your heart, that we were fighting a war which was to stop any type of
aggression from nations suffering from the dementia of Lebensraum -- now and forever! We
are, thank God, peace-loving, but not to the extent of mental ennui, with common
international problems which concern us all. We always must stick together and fight
aggression as a good neighbor would join in stopping a housebreaker or murderer.
